Spending the day at Muscoot Farm feels like stepping back to a simpler time. A time full of baying sheep, wallowing pigs and grazing cows. Muscoot is part of the Westchester County parks system and your family can; tour more than 50 animals, learn about dairy farming during the 1900's, or attend one of their year-round education programs. Even though the farm is more of a museum, used to teach the public about the history of farm life, your family will feel like you are part of a real working farm!
The farmhouse and barns are all beautifully preserved and are open for public tours and viewing. You can enter the historic milking parlor, see antique tractors and visit animals in their indoor stalls. Baby pigs sleeping under heat lamps or playful lambs frolicking in the hay are always the highlight of any trip to Muscoot! The farm is open year-round so the warm barns are always a nice refuge in the colder months.
Along with the animals and farm buildings your children can tour the herb and flower gardens that are home to butterflies, birds and bees. Feel free to slow down, sit on a bench in the shade and take in the fragrant beauty of these pollinator gardens. Serving as the food for pollinators the herb and flower gardens are vital to the success of the farm's vegetables that feed people and animals!
If your family is up for it, the farm also boasts 5 miles of hiking trails. Hike past beautiful, green fields of grazing cows, ponds teeming with aquatic life and through mature and peaceful forests. Feel free to check their
events calendar for birding walks, or other guided hikes that are held year-round.
Muscoot Farm is the perfect place to spend the whole day, outside! Hiking, visiting over 50 animals and learning all about the history of farm life. Your family can also enjoy the weekly farmer's market, public events and even outdoor movie nights! They are open year-round and free of charge, but please consider leaving a donation as the farm thrives on public funds!
