An exciting book for us all about traveling the world on a motorcycle

HVP publisher shares her take on this book

A great read for young and old

I have a friend who l loves motorcycles and riding the open road. This may not be for you, or me, but wind running through my hair sounds exciting.

She introduced me to GIRL ON A MOTORCYCLE by Amy Novesky and published by Viking, an imprint of Penguin Random House LLC, New York, in 2020. It suggests the book is for kids 5 to 9, but I loved it, and I am far from being young. Wonderfully illustrated by Julie Morstad.

It tells the true story of the first woman to ride a motorcycle around the world alone. The rider is Anne-France Dautheville, a journalist who lives in Paris, France.

At 28 she decides to travel the world. And for 10 years she sees sites and visits locations we have only dreamed of. She gets sunburned and bruised but it doesn’t stop her from moving on. Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, Hungry, Austria, Germany…

At times she is the only woman in the towns that she travels through, but that doesn’t stop her.

While traveling she blows a tire. According to the story

A truck stops. A group of men step out.

They help her change her tire.

Her motorcycle is tough like her.

A great read. I got my book from the library. You may order from any of the online services $17.99. Read it to your kids. Have your kids read it to you. Let me know what you all think.
