For young kids we are seeing more and more 3-D materials being developed and a trend towards tactile approaches.  Certainly digital technologies play a huge role in the arts for young people with cross media exploration becoming more mainstream.  Multi-media art, digital photography, fashion design, filmmaking and performance are all trending areas.  In a world where every young person has the ability to create and distribute film at his or her fingertips – that is, after all, what YouTube is – the immediacy of multimedia art has a great influence.  Of course, this distribution revolution has also made music – and making your own music – a trending area.
