Child's Pose on the Wall

Wall-Assisted Shoulder Stretch

wallchildspose
As we've seen in the last few posts, the wall can help us achieve deeper yet healthy yoga poses. Child's Pose is no exception. Many of us have difficulty leaning over into child's pose on the floor. Back stiffness, hip tightness and body shape can impede a deep forward bend in this position. However, we can get a beautiful stretch by leaning against the wall instead of the floor. If kneeling bothers your knees, place a bolster or folded blanket between your hips and heels or lift your hips into a "standing on your knees" position. You may also like to do this pose on a very thick mat or blanket for great comfort. Breathe deeply throughout, and enjoy this restful, comforting yoga asana.
