Union Vale is a hiker's haven

When it comes to Union Vale, New York natural beauty comes to mind. Home to Tymor Park and Forest, the 500-acre parkland is the largest municipal park in New York State and offers an enormous range of outdoor activities for families and friends, including trails, sports fields, camping sites, an equestrian center, indoor halls, pavilions, and pools. The park, which served as an iron mill during the American Revolution, hosts community events, such as egg hunts, community day, Oktoberfest and movie nights.

Located in the south-central part of Dutchess County and 15 miles east of Poughkeepsie, Union Vale offers families, young professionals and retirees a full community life, safety and highly rated schools, including those of the Arlington, Millbrook and Dover districts. Most of the town’s 5,000 or so residents own their homes, with the median home values at around $380,000. The area also features access to major hospitals in nearby Poughkeepsie, Vassar Brothers Medical Center and Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital.

Golfers enjoy the town’s Links at Union Vale golf course—a regular location of amateur tournaments hosted by the USGA, the Metropolitan Golf Association, and the Dutchess County Amateur Golf Association—along with its public restaurant. Other favorite restaurants in town include the Iron Furnace and 82BBQ, located on Route 82 nearby. Sky Acres Airport is in the northwestern part of town.

Vale was formed in 1827 from nearby Beekman and LaGrange towns and in the 1940s it was common practice to harvest and sell blocks of ice from nearby Pray's Pond.
