This month, we're showcasing some of our favorite Hudson Valley towns in our 5 must-dos series. Today we're focusing on the birthplace of fly-fishing... Livingston Manor, New York situated in lovely Sullivan County. Pack the family in the car this weekend and head over to Livingston Manor. While you're there, check out these great spots!
1. See a show at Forestburgh Playhouse
The Forestburgh Playhouse brings Broadway caliber shows to Sullivan County. The playhouse has a variety of shows for people of all ages, including a special children’s theater show. This summer the children’s theater presents Seussical the Musical! Annie, Fiddler on the Roof and Mamma Mia! are just a sampling of the great shows planned for the 2018 season. 2. Grab a bite to eat at Main Street Farm Café
This quaint sandwich shop and café brings the best of local foods from area farms, farmer’s markets, and food artisans together for your convenience. All sandwiches, salads, sides, and soups are house-made with tons of love. YUM!
3. Celebrate the trout at the Trout Parade and Arts Festival
The trout parade is an annual street fair that celebrates Livingston Manor and the Catskill region at large. The trout parade happens on the second Saturday in June each year. Your family will love the live entertainment, food, floats, puppets, and more!
4. Become a farm-hand and make ricotta cheese at Apple Pond Farm
Saturday mornings at Apple Pond Farm are reserved for a special program called “Farming with Kids.” Your kids will be able to milk a goat, groom horses, work in the garden, and gather eggs! While the kids are learning the ropes, parents can take part in the exciting “A Lotta Ricotta” class where participants learn about milk and caring for dairy goats, make whole milk ricotta, and sample cheese from local cheese makers.
5. Finish your day with desert from Brandenburg Bakery
This family owned German bakery makes all their treats from scratch with natural local ingredients. Whether you like sweet or savory treats there is something here for you! Our top sweet pick is the Chocolate Turnover filled with vanilla cream and delicious chocolate.
