family friendly activities to do in kingston ny

Pack the family in the car this weekend and head over to Kingston. While you're there, be sure to check out these great spots!

1. See the animals at Forsyth Nature Center
With 24 animal exhibits and a dozen gardens, Forsyth Nature Center aims to foster the exploration of the natural world in and around our community through educational programming. Here you can learn about the different animals and plant life in the Hudson Valley!

2. Get the perfect view of the Hudson River from Rondout Lighthouse
This lighthouse is the last of three lighthouses marking the entrance to the Rondout Creek and only one of seven left on the Hudson River. It is accessible only by boat and can be toured with an experienced tour guide. Take in the observation deck’s views and snap a picture or two while you’re up there!

3. Enjoy a hot dog from Dallas Hot Wieners
For over 85 years Dallas Hot Weiners has been serving memorable hot dogs. With two locations in Kingston you have double the opportunity to try a great dog, burger or sandwich! Make sure to try the secret sauce and you’ll soon discover why these hot dogs are more than your regular ball park frank. Not to mention the prices are amazingly affordable!

4. Learn more about the Hudson River at the Hudson River Maritime Museum
Did you know tidal waters influence the Hudson River’s flow as far north as Troy? This is just one tidbits of information you and your family will learn at the Hudson River Maritime Museum. Explore the museum’s many exhibits including their brand new exhibit that chronicles the history of wooden boat building in the Hudson River Valley with a sharp focus on Rondout Creek. Another favorite exhibit is the Ecological History exhibit in the East Gallery. You’ll learn all about the wildlife that calls Hudson River its home. You’ll also be able to enjoy the live fish tanks and will learn about climate change and geology.

5. Cool off with a cup or cone from Jane’s Ice Cream
The handmade ice cream comes in flavors ranging from cookies and cream to lavender. The family run business boasts award winning ice cream and friendly faces with real fruit and dairy from hormone free cows. From your first spoonful you’ll be glad you stopped here… and who knows, maybe you’ll see Bette Midler! She’s a huge fan of Jane’s Ice Cream.
