October is all about celebrating the odd and unique! It's about long winding back roads that are full of fiery leaves, hot cups of spiced lattes and warm apple desserts. The Den of Marbletown has all of these October necessities covered! This very unique museum explores the history of the teddy bear and the world of stuffies! Each corner, nook and cranny of this old farmhouse is filled with every stuffed animal imaginable and they all tell a story! It's superbly odd and a perfect destination for the Halloween season!
The curator of the museum is happy to show your family all of the teddy bear and doll treasures that fill this space. Each room tells a story and awaits discovery; large circus animals in the Stone Room, colorful rainbow blocks lining the walls of the hallway while old fashion dolls and barbies take over the upstairs rooms.
My daughter's most favorite thing about the museum were all of the hidden places waiting to be discovered! Closets and cupboards opened up to hidden worlds and treasures. Hedgehogs burrowing down with moles and the characters from the Wind in the Willows. A closet full of dollhouse furniture that was waiting to be used. It was so magical!
After you have gotten your fill of teddy bear and doll history, the museum also boasts a beautiful playroom with toys, a huge giant teddy bear and your very own bear cave! The cave is such a cozy place, where your children can spend a few hours completely immersed in imaginative play! The museum's cafe serves light fare and beverages so parents can grab something to nosh while the children frolic.
Halloween does not have to be all ghosts and goblins, the odd and supernatural can be celebrated in lots of places! Our family thought that this was the perfect place to spend an October day!
Tips for visiting:
- The museum takes cash or credit.
- There is a gift store that is unavoidable, and the stuffies are quite pricey. My advice if you want to avoid tantrums is to say it's part of the museum. No one's the wiser.
