Make history come alive for your family at this historic site, Washington’s Headquarters! Take your child on an interactive and fun history lesson about George Washington and his headquarters during the Revolutionary War located in Newburgh. Who says you can’t learn while having fun?

While touring throughout the building and museum, your family will learn all about how history was made here that made a huge impact on America. General George Washington made important decisions here such as his decision not to be king after the Revolutionary War. He prevented military control of the government, created and awarded the Badge of Military Merit, and influenced the writing of the Constitution.

By scheduling a tour with a knowledgeable and interactive tour guide, your family will learn all about how he made these decisions as well as more information about his personal life. Make sure that you check out our field guide to help you make the most out of your visit! You will be giving your children the chance to learn about something in person and outside of the classroom!

Explore the treasures and artifacts of the time period in the museum center! Your family can look at the pieces from this time period and can pull out drawers full of important objects and documents with touch screen pads provided to give you more interesting information. Take a look at the huge iron chain that was placed into the Hudson River from West Point to prevent the British warships from sailing up the river. Your family will also love the silver-hilt hunting sword and scabbard that was used from an American during the Battle of Saratoga in 1777! The paintings of George and Martha Washington will leave you in awe at the beautiful fine details that were put into them.
