Summer Fun Day #3: Visit Sprout Creek Farm

Last summer while driving up Noxon Rd. in Dutchess County with my boys I saw a sign for Sprout Creek Farm. I hadn’t been before but many mom friends have raved about their visits so making a hard right I jumped onto the dirt road that led us to the farm.

Unsure what to expect I unloaded the boys and we started to explore. We were immediately greeted by a staff member with welcoming grin and a warning about a faraway shed (it was slaughter day). Yes, this is a real working dairy farm.

From education programs to farming and community events, Sprout Creek is a place to explore nature, animals and learn where food comes from. With award winning cheeses you can be sure the finest cows aren’t just from California. (If you are looking for the best family-friendly events, try our online calendar).

Our short afternoon visit included petting baby goats, getting up close and personal with cows in the field, holding a baby chicken and watching the ducks. Everyone is welcoming and the grounds are just gorgeous! I happened to have snacks in the car so we took them out and picnicked on the tables near the farm store which also happens to have some of the best ice cream I have ever tasted and that’s saying a lot from this ice cream expert.
Sprout Creek Farm is
open to the public from Wednesday to Sunday from 10am-5pm.
They also offer special
events such as an upcoming Burger night to benefit Sparrow’s Nest on Friday,
June 17th, day camps, overnight camps and various school educationalprograms. For more summer camp ideas near you, visit the Camp Guide. sproutcreekfarm.org
