Grasshopper Grove is a true gem to the Hudson Valley. First opened in 2013, Grasshopper Grove is a half-acre of safe, accessible nature play space where young children can run down hills, balance on logs, use their imaginations and develop their motor skills. Natural elements give young children the opportunity to find adventure and appreciate the wonder of nature by climbing on fallen trees, digging in dirt piles, balancing on boulders and creating imaginative worlds with sticks, pine cones and bark. Admission is free for members, $3 for nonmembers.
Natural elements are at the heart of the child- centered play area. At Grasshopper Grove children are encouraged to explore, get dirty and have fun doing it! Activities that strengthen hand- eye coordination and muscle development but also foster creativity, critical thinking, appropriate risk- taking, problem solving and cooperation skills is all you will find here. Children will enjoy jumping among the tree stumps, creating houses from sticks and leaves, create rain art, read stories, cloud watch and more.
Lunch and after school Grasshopper clubs for 4 and 5 year old are also available. Through unstructured play children will learn to develop coordination, cooperation skills and a connection with the environment. Children in these programs will have access to Grasshopper Grove during appropriate weather.
In addition to Grasshopper Grover, Hudson Highlands Nature Museum also offers visitors hiking trails, wildlife education programs, Discovery Quests, Exhibits and special events. The calendar is almost always full- take a look before you plan your visit!
