Is a trip to Lake George on your bucket list this summer? So many Hudson Valley families pilgrimage to the Queen of American Lakes each summer to bask in the sun and play on the lake but did you know about a little hidden gem just a few miles away from town?
The Natural Stone Bridge and Caves has been captivating visitors for over 200 years with its massive stone bridge arch, caverns and trails. The largest marble cave entrance in the east, these unique marble caves were rapidly formed during the last ice age. Trails here are littered with unique rock features, tranquil pools, grottos, potholes and raging waterfalls.
The activities at The Stone Bridge and Caves are endless and fun for families, couples or even exploring alone. Bring your sneakers and take a self-guided tour this summer through the massive arch and along the breathtaking terrain at your own pace. You should plan for an hour or more to truly enjoy each scene.
Children can hunt for actual gemstones at the mining tables, go on a Crystal Quest Mine to find the crystals buried in sand, or put on a helmet and venture into the dark Gold Rush Mine to find your treasures. Other activities include Disc Golf, playground, rock climbing wall, Dino Dig and museum.
During the summer (May 2-Sept.5), self-guided tours and many of the activities are open from 9am-6pm and guided tours are available on a limited basis.
Before you leave make sure you stop by Stone Bridge Ice Cream shop just a couple miles from the caves to try one of their 46 legendary flavors.
