Summer Fun: Jump on a horse

Ride the trails with your kids

Summer Fun

What better way to enjoy the dog days of summer than to take a leisurely ride in nature. Riding a horse is not only fun but can be therapeutic. Take your kids for a ride this summer.

Established in 1965, Juckas Stables is a friendly, family-owned and operated business. They have 117 acres of trails winding through the breathtaking Hudson Valley countryside. You can book a 75 minute trail ride or a 90 minute picnic trail ride. You can also just relax with horses without actually riding them with their Breakfast with the Horses or After Hours with Herd programs.

At Juckas Stables, no matter what your age or ability you can learn to ride a horse, or rent a horse by the hour and explore the hundreds of acres of trails.

Our area certainly has no shortage of horse farms scattered about. From horse rescues and summer camps to therapy riding and lessons; there are plenty of opportunities for your children to experience riding. When I asked online a few favorites included: Lucky Orphans Horse Rescue, Meadow Creek Farm, My Saddle Brook Farm and Greystone Stables. Find more places you can go to ride a horse here.

While most of the programs above start children riding around school age, if you are like me with a horse-loving toddler, check out Southlands Foundation in Rhinebeck who offer a mommy and me horseback riding class!

Also visit our daily calendar page filled with activities and events in every county!

Pamela resides in Dutchess County with her two boys and enjoys crossing things off their bucket list each summer.
