When snowfall is heavy and the ground turns white, the sky is clear and so very bright. What can your family find to do all day and night? How about sledding, skiing, skating, or tubing. Your family will thank you so here’s some places for the choosing.

Grab your snow sled and hit the hills! There are many places throughout the Hudson Valley for playing in the snow! Whether you are looking for a mountain with a tubing hill and skis or a sledding hill for your play-at-your-own-risk fun we've got you covered!

Winding Hills Park. 2 Old Rte. 17K, Montgomery. Cross country skiing and snowshoeing. Visit the site for details and rentals. 845-457-4918.

Mount Peter Ski & Ride. 51 Old Mt. Peter Rd., Warwick. Check website for opening date. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Mount Peter has taken a number of precautionary steps to ensure the safety of its guests and staff this season, including the installation of ultraviolet (UV) lights across the property. This technique uses uses a multi-tiered approach to surface and air sterilization using a combination of powerful UV light that directly eliminates and sterilizes surfaces and spaces from pathogens. Sterling Forest State Park. 116 Old Forge Rd., Tuxedo, 10987.  Cross country skiing and snowshoeing. Visit sites such as Southfields Furnace, the Sterling Furnace, and the Sterling Forge, and learn about the group's special outdoor hikes.  Open daily from 8am-4:30pm.  845-351-5907.

Victor Constant Ski Area. 732 Victor Constant Rd., West Point. Enjoy the slopes, skiing and snowboarding for family fun and maybe have a close encounter with the Army cadets. Open to the public Mon.-Fri. 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Season snow passes are also available for full day, twilight and weekends. Equipment and lockers are available to rent. Belleayre: 181 Galli Curci Rd., Highmount. A mountain where anyone can ski or learn to ski, this location offers tons of trails for skiing and snowboarding, lifts, mountain dining, and lodges. Open 7 days a week in the winter, lift start running at 9 a.m. through 4 p.m., lodges are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. 845-254-5600.

Minnewaska State Park.  5281 Rte. 44-55, Kerhonkson. Enjoy cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and the scenic nature route along the way. Winter activities open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. when there has been snow. 845-255-0752.

Mohonk Mountain House. 1000 Mountain Rest Rd., New Paltz. Enjoy food, accommodations, spa treatments, and winter activities all in the same place. Mohonk offers outdoor ice skating, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, and snow tubing. Call for details. 855-883-3798.

Pine Ridge Dude Ranch. 30 Cherrytown Rd., Kerhonkson. Open Mon.-Sun. 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Enjoy horseback riding on snow covered hills, snow tubing, skiing, cross-country skiing, ice skating, an indoor pool, and more. Call for day trips or reservations. 866-600-0859.


Holiday Mountain Recreation Area. 99 Holiday Mountain Rd., Monticello. Open Tuesday through Thursday 3 p.m.-9 p.m., Friday 12 p.m.-9 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m.-9 p.m., and Sunday 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Offers tubing, ski and snowboard lessons. Villa Roma Resort & Conference Center. 356 Villa Roma Rd., Callicoon. This time of the year, when the temperatures drop, and the snow hits the slopes; it means skiing, snowboarding and tubing time at Villa Roma! Break out your skis because we have more than just a few hills for your ride. Bowdoin Park: 85 Sheafe Rd., Wappingers Falls. Open November through February 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Enjoy sledding on the main hill only after it snows, portable ice-skating rink and hot chocolate and coffee at the vending machine pavilion. 845-298-4600.

James Baird State Park. 14 Maintenance Ln., Pleasant Valley. Open year-round from sunrise to sunset. Enjoy cross country skiing and snowshoeing in the wintertime. 845-452-1489.

Drayton Grant Park at Burger Hill. 3137 New York 9G, Rhinebeck. Open year-round, daily from sunrise to sunset. Enjoy cross country skiing, sledding, and snowshoeing. 845-876-4213.

Mills-Norrie State Park. 9 Old Post Rd., Staatsburg. Enjoy cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Call for details and scheduling. 845-889-4646.

Mount Beacon Park. 788 Wolcott Ave., Beacon. Open year-round from dawn to dusk. See beautiful views from the top of the mountain while cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. 845-765-3262.

Ogden Mills & Ruth Livingston Mills State Park. Old Post Rd., Staatsburg. Open year-round. Various activities include cross country skiing, sledding, and snowshoeing trails. 845-889-8851.

Tymor Park. 2 Tymor Park Rd., LaGrangeville. Open daily from dawn to dusk. Enjoy sledding and daytime and lite nighttime ice skating, weather permitting. Check the Facebook page for updates or call the park. 845-724-5691.

Thunder Ridge Ski Area. 137 Birch Hill Rd., Patterson, 12563. Enjoy day and nighttime skiing, ski lifts, snowboarding, and a slope side lodge with a cafeteria, pub and panoramic views. Visit the website for opening dates and hours. 845-878-4100.

Windham Mountain. 19 Resort Dr, Windham. Featuring 97% snowmaking, Windham Mountain offers 54 trails spread across 285 acres of skiable terrain that's accessed via 12 lifts. They also have a Tubing Park with 6 lanes, serviced by a conveyor lift, plus kids' snowmobiles, and a cozy lodge. (518) 734-4300.

Hunter Mountain Resort. 64 Klein Ave, Hunter. Four separate mountain faces encompass a wide variety of terrain which caters to skiers and riders of all ability levels. You can find plenty of jumps, transitions, rails and so much more. Hunter Mountain’s tubing hill, at nearly 1000 feet long, is a “no-skills” fun activity for the whole family.
