Support your community and shop local this holiday season

This is the season when we should support the wonderful local retail stores we have in the region while shopping for the holidays. They maintain a local business. They live locally. And they shop locally as well.

My household has remained quarantined...somewhat. We go the supermarket, do pick up at local restaurants (tonight we ordered from BBQ Brothers), and we frequent our local parks. Everything else is done at home.

Last weekend my husband and I decided to do what I preach...shop local. We wanted to buy gifts that are easy to mail, since we are not doing any family gatherings.

We shopped at SallyeAnder who manufacturers soap in their Beacon factory. They hosted a pop up shop. Went to  Newburgh Mercantile, with its delightful array of wonderful gifts. I bought a group of spices to send to our kids in Troy. Then we visited Oliver and Chatfield, with its eclectic inventory, from pottery to jewelry and more.  Susan, the owner, is a delight to talk to.

It may take more than a click on your computer screen to complete your order, but these stores will be forever grateful to have you as a neighbor and a customer.

Scroll through the list and pick items that spark your interest. Then give them a buzz or go visit. Tell them Hudson Valley Parent sent you!
