Oakwood Friends School welcomed new and returning students back to our campus. After a summer of
extensive work focused on the health and safety of our community, a commitment
to mission and the academic strength of our program, we are prepared to
support each of our students, through both our in-person and our online
learning platforms.
We are prepared and ready to
safely and responsibly move forward.
During this last year, I have seen the Oakwood community at their
creative, adaptive, and resilient best. Health and safety, a sense of
community, and our commitment to academic excellence continue to guide our
decision-making as we support and challenge our students. We are closely
monitoring the environment in New York and are prepared and ready to adapt
quickly and thoughtfully, should conditions change.
Over
the summer we have:
- made significant investments in the health and safety
of our community
- enhanced the physical spaces, classrooms, and performance
spaces
- expanded our outdoor classrooms to include more of
the 55-acre campus
- fully updated and renovated our 100-year old theater
- expanded the technological infrastructure
- invested in the support of and professional development
of faculty and staff
- Listened, responded to, and supported families and
students through these difficult months away from campus
Classes
will look different
- Social distancing, masks, and adherence to
all DOH and CDC health protocols
- Creative scheduling allows both boarding and day
students to engage in all levels of core and elective class offerings
- Students will continue to eat well and eat healthy in their
dining hall.
- Great outdoors! We have created several outdoor
classrooms and offerings; thankful for and taking advantage of our 55+
acre campus
- You may even see a physics lab or music class
with students participating synchronously in-person and remotely from four
continents.
Regardless of where our students
are physically, we will be connected as one Oakwood community.
Over the last 224
years, Oakwood Friends School has guided, nurtured, and inspired
students. Remaining true to mission, we see challenges as opportunities and
find strength in diversity.
I look forward to seeing your
children this year as we all continue on this journey together. See you on
campus!
