Port Jervis is a small city in the western part of Orange County, New York and located along the Delaware River.
Named one of America’s coolest small towns by Budget Travel magazine, Port Jervis has a mix of historical landmarks, modern conveniences and outdoor spaces, all of which make it easy to see why it earned the praise. With its mix of unique shops, restaurants, bakeries, ice cream parlors, art galleries and antique stores to explore, it’s a great place to live, visit and stroll through.
Laurel Grove Cemetery, is on the Haunted History Trail of New York. Reports have been made by people who have seen a woman in a flowing white gown appear, then disappear behind a mausoleum or run into the river before vanishing from sight. The Cemetery is at the intersection of New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Visitors can stand in all three states at once while taking in views of the Neversink and Delaware Rivers.
The Upper Delaware Scenic Byway starts in Port Jervis and offers amazing views of the tri-state area by car, including Hawk’s Nest, the Delaware River, the Neversink River, the Shawangunk Mountains and the Kittatinny Mountains. This windy road is often used in TV commercials.
Thousands pass through Port Jervis every summer to enjoy water activities such as swimming, rafting, kayaking and canoeing at the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area and the Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River. In fact, water sports are among the most popular family activities in Port Jervis, including rafting, canoeing, kayaking and fishing. Many families enjoy padding up the Delaware River and then floating back downstream. Vessels and equipment are available for rental near the water. Picnicking and relaxing at the bank are other another popular pastimes.
