percent.
Described
as a rural-suburban community, Pleasant Valley epitomizes a small-town feeling,
whose small department stores provide what residents want, deterring their need
to travel to large, shopping malls. In fact, locals say they love the town’s history and that its small-town center that
has every kind of store and service needed. The town’s Historical
Society, Lions Club, Senior Center and Rotary Club offer many activities
throughout the year for people of all ages.
Pleasant
Valley’s schools are highly rated. The area has plenty of dairy farms and fruit-growing,
along with the opportunity to visit area farms, such as the Lily Moore Alpaca
Farm. Nearby,
James Baird State Park has a golf course, seven miles of hiking trails and a
sports complex. Pat of James Baird’s claim to fame is that he was the
contractor whose firm manufactured the Lincoln Memorial.
Pleasant
Valley’s slice of old time Americana includes its annual Festival of Lights at
Christmas, a parade and Mistletoe Kiss and Go. Locals appreciate the town’s back roads, the farm animals and wildlife that visits their
yards. The Village Restaurant and Pancake Factory is a local foodie favorite
but there also are other spots for lunch, dinner, live music and even pet-friendly
eateries.
There
are many local parks and nearby Innisfree Park in Millbrook features a Chinese
styled garden, recognized as one of the world's ten best gardens. With no set hours, the Mills Site
Museum is where you can learn about the town's manufacturing history, it's fire
and loss of income to the town's families in the 1800s. The town's first
settlers from Connecticut named it Pleasant Valley since it was so pleasing to
them.
