Pawling, Town of

Pawling feels like home

Pawling has been described as a slice of Norman Rockwell, the mid-1900s illustrator whose work reflected American life. Whether sitting in the shade at Lakeside Park, soaking in some smiles or another activity, residents enjoy this town’s beautiful outdoor treasure, which is within walking distance to its vibrant village.

Quaker Hill and the Pawling’s history and influential residents through the years are the pride of the town’s residents. Sunshine School was established 45 years ago and is a great place for preschoolers to get a quality start to their education. Moreover, the walkable access of restaurants and shops as well as the train adds to its charm. There's hiking the Appalachian Trail or walking on the boardwalk with your dog, skiing at Thunder Ridge. Friday morning breakfast at Pawing Bread Company is great way to end the week, while Saturday morning brunch at the Sunflour Bakery welcomes the weekend. While you’re at it, stop for dinner at O’Connors or the Pawling Tap House. Or pick up Dary’s Sauce and homemade meatballs from Vinnys Deli.

There also are Jane Haslam’s LAND Gallery for photography shows and information on owls and more at the local library. Residents say the schools are amazing, with the elementary school about the happiest place around.

Regular events include the village tree lighting and Halloween Festivities, along with Pawling's Got Talent and Stone Soup. There are two train stations in town, and just a short ride away from New York City. No major hospital in town but there are several medical facilities and doctor's office.

For nightlife, there's Daryl's House Club and Restaurant. Daryl Hall of the super pop duo Hall & Oats lives nearby; the club hosts some musicians like Chris Trapper and The Pushstars. Famous residents include Aaron Neville, James Earl Jones and Sally Jessy Raphael.
