Me Time: Just for Women

Personal Development

Say oui to learning a new language
Are you looking for a way to enrich your life and learn something new? Learning a new language is as easy as uno, dos, tres!

Take the time to learn about the culture and customs of a place as well as the language. The Newburgh Free Library holds adult only classes for those looking to dive into French culture and literature. Le Cercle de Lecture is a French book club that meets on the first Sunday of each month. There is also a group that meets on the last Saturday of the month that focuses on French language and culture.

It is important to work your brain out just like any other muscle in your body. Keep your brain strong and healthy by learning something new!

There are tons of apps, books and websites that you can use to learn a new language. You can even use certain, more expensive options for free while in the Newburgh Free Library.

Plus, if you learn a new language, that's just one more reason to take that international trip you've been dreaming of!

Go on a kid-free getaway
How long has it been since you and your partner took a trip sans kids? You love spending time with your kids, but it is important for you to have some adult time without singing the itsy-bitsy spider or cutting anybody's crust off.

Treat yourself to a mini-vacation this month. Take a long weekend from work and go somewhere you and your partner used to love when you first started dating! It's important to get out and away from the house. Otherwise, you'll be tempted to touch the laundry or finish that one thing you needed to do (that we all know will turn into twenty).

Reconnect with your partner and yourself. Disconnect from technology (cell phones are for emergency contact with babysitter only!) and give yourself time to relax doing your favorite thing. Read a book that doesn't have cardboard pages and soak in your own special bubble bath.

Call Grandma this weekend, you're going away!

Get back to your roots
Remember when you used to love taking pictures on your camera? Now, you're lucky if you are able to snap a few shots using your smartphone. You used to love to dance. Now, the only dance you're familiar with is the "potty dance."

This month, make a list of the things that you used to love to do before you had kids but have now taken a back seat to your super mom duties. Like a bucket list of things you've done before and absolutely need to do again.

Each month, make it one of your priorities to pick one of them back up and remember the "you" that you used to be.

Look into local, free classes that you can take. Treat yourself to a new set of art supplies or a new yoga mat. A happy mom is a healthy mom!

Be a tech savvy mama
Get versed in some new computer skills and feel very high-tech!

Whether you've been wanting to learn how to use Snapchat to keep up with your kids or to learn Excel to up your game at work, now is the perfect time.

There are tons of free classes at local libraries that can teach you the ins and outs of a computer. Learn basic skills and build upon them at the intermediate level.

Don't have time for a class? Sit down with your teen and have them show you the techno-ropes! This will be a great bonding experience. You will be able to learn about something they are into while learning something beneficial for you.

Plus, it's good to be up on the latest technology trends. The savvier you are, the safer you can keep your kids!
