Do Your Back a Favor

Low Lunge Twist

When your back aches, you probably lean forward and rub those tight lower back muscles. It might surprise you to learn that leaning back may give you greater relief. Tight hip flexor muscles--those thick, strong muscles on the front of the hips that lift your legs forward--are responsible for many an aching back. Prolonged sitting and lack of stretching can cause these muscle to tighten and shorten, thus pulling on the lower back where they connect. By pressing the hips forward and twisting, you will stretch and lengthen these muscle and bring relief to your lower back.
