What skills should my child know before they start kindergarten?
Deborah McLean provides the answer
We look at the whole child when we are determining readiness for kindergarten and there are many factors involved including their ability to be part of a group and to focus their attention for longer periods of time. You may want to encourage your child to write his or her name if he or she isn’t already. But, most importantly, read, read, read with your child. Talk about the story. Ask him or her to predict what will happen next. Notice the funny part, or the sad part. Enjoying stories together will help to ensure your child’s readiness for kindergarten.
