Free ice-skating classes offered for youth and adults

Professional instructors teach figure skating basics

Novice ice skaters across the generations are invited to learn the basics of figure skating for free during a ‘Try Skating for Free Class’ in January. Two sessions are available; one on January 18, 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., at the McCann Ice Arena in Poughkeepsie and another on January 25, 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., at Ice Time Sports Complex, in Newburgh.

During the sessions professional instructors will teach each participant figure skating basics in a fun environment. Immediately following each free class at both locations, participants will be invited to stay for public skate, including a free skate rental with a paid admission.

The free learn-to-skate programs recognize National Skating Month, which seeks to increase awareness and participation in the U.S. Figure Skating programs and Learn to Skate USA by offering a day of skating from professionally trained instructors across the United States.

This January, discover the magic of skating.
