Hudson Valley Parent regularly reviews restaurants for their suitability as a family-friendly option, or for a parents' night out. Here we have one that caters to both, and at reasonable prices: White Wolf Dining in Napanoch (Ulster County).
Overall
Good quality food for date nites; kids menu with all the favorites: burgers and chicken tenders. Entrees average $15; sandwiches and burgers under $10.
Ambience
The finely hewn wood and high ceilings provide a sense of intimacy, but there’s a feeling of the great outdoors as well. Seating areas are comfortable for date nights, and convenient for strollers and high chairs.
Appetizer
French onion soup which was smooth and fragrant. The Fried Goat cheese was drenched in a raspberry sauce. That, too, was warm, smooth and very satisfying.
Entrées
Mussels in a deliciously piping-hot, white butter sauce that actually yelled at us for bread! One dining companion tried Edamame Dumplings, and another the baked haddock with twice baked potatoes and fresh veggies. The Pork Schnitzel with carrots, cauliflower and sweet potato fries got a thumbs up, although there was extra charge of $2 for the fries — but I was told, well worth it.
Dessert
One choice was an outstanding ice cream sundae with vanilla and coffee ice cream (you can choose the flavors), with chocolate sauce, whipped cream with nuts served in a large parfait glass. It was, we agreed, “to die for.” (Some dinner options include dessert).
Staff
We were a big party of eight with different check needs. The wait staff was most agreeable. We also had a curtain to make at the nearby Shadowland Theatre, and thus were served promptly, finishing in plenty of time, without having to gulp our food down.
