Hamptonburgh is a dream for outdoor lovers
Located in the north-central part of Orange County, New York, the town of Hamptonburgh is a rural area with less than 6,000 residents. If your family likes the outdoors then come to Hamptonburgh where outdoor activities run the gamut. Parks and preserves offer recreational activities and opportunities to observe nature and the beautiful Hudson Valley scenery. Enjoy Thomas Bull Memorial Park in the hamlet of Campbell Hall, the second-largest park in the county. The site offers playgrounds, large picnic pavilions, a dog park, ball fields, volleyball, tennis, basketball, horseback riding and boating. There are fishing ponds as well as, golfing and winter sports.
The Orange County Arboretum is located in Thomas Bull Memorial Park. The 35-acre’s gardens are open year-round and include displays of unusual trees, plus beautiful shrubs and plants along with pathways connecting various gardens.
Enjoy Hamptonburgh Park, with its Little League ball field, soccer field, playground and pavilion, which can be reserved on a fee-basis for parties.
The town also includes the Hamptonburgh Preserve, with 130 acres of prime nesting habitat for waterfowl, woodpeckers, bluebirds and other cavity-nesting birds. The site also has 74 acres of wildflower meadows, farmland and a riverine forest. While parts of the land is farmed, the site offers public access for walking, photography and birding.
Another highlight of the Town of Hamtonburgh is Sally’s Dream Playground in Thomas Bull Memorial Park. A handicap-accessible playground, the site was named for Sally McGlynn, an advocate for people with disabilities who was instrumental in the development of independent living centers.
