Dreamworks’ Madagascar, A Musical Adventure! Join Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Melman the Giraffe, Gloria the hip hip Hippo and, of course, those hilarious, plotting penguins as they bound onto our stage in the musical adventure of a lifetime. Based on the smash DreamWorks animated motion picture, Madagascar – A Musical Adventure follows all of your favorite crack-alackin’ friends as they escape from their home in New York’s Central Park Zoo and find themselves on an unexpected journey to the madcap world of King Julien’s Madagascar.
Gordon Gets Down! The world premiere of a new musical comedy for young audiences. Gordon Gets Down is the perfectly fabulous musical for our barn theatre! It’s Martha Gruffington Day at Sunny Creek Goat Farm! While preparing for the annual line dance, Gordon discovers he’s got 4 left hooves. With a little self-discovery, a lot of love and a few songs along the way, Gordon is sure to find the right moves! Don’t miss this amazing brand-new musical for young audiences premiering at the Forestburgh Playhouse!
On the Mainstage: Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical! July 18-30 (Tuesday through Saturdays at 8, Wednesdays at 2, and Sundays at 3) The story of an extraordinary girl who dares to take a stand and change her own destiny. Inspired by the twisted genius of Roald Dahl, the Tony Award-winning Roald Dahl's Matilda the Musical is the captivating masterpiece that revels in the anarchy of childhood, the power of imagination and the inspiring story of a girl who dreams of a better life. Matilda has won 47 international awards and continues to thrill sold-out audiences of all ages around the world. Packed with high-energy dance numbers and catchy songs, Matilda is a joyous theatrical romp not to be missed!
Arts Education! The Forestburgh Playhouse Academy offers arts education programs that are designed to enrich and provide the highest level of artistic growth to students with a passion for the performing arts. With the mentorship of NYC based, working theatre professionals, a supportive and safe environment and unique programming that is linked to the professional, Forestburgh Playhouse stage, the artistic possibilities for Academy students are endless! August 6-12 (Ages 8-12): Summer Musical Theatre Intensive: The Musical Theatre Intensive is back and better than ever! Young Artists will work with experienced instructors to hone their skills in singing, dancing and performing. The week will culminate with the students starring in the original re-telling of HERCULES THE MUSICAL, performed for family and friends.
August 14-26 (Ages 13-17): 2-Week Musical Theatre Summer Session: The Theatre For Young Artists Musical Camp is a brand new program this year, designed specifically for older Young Artists. During the two-week camp, participants will star in and work one-on-one with working NYC-based directors, choreographers and music directors to mount a full-length production of THE SPONGEBOB MUSICAL.
September 18-23 (8-17): Fall Series Cabaret: Fall at Forestburgh means it’s time for the Fall Performance Series featuring Broadway stars, local musicians, and this year…the Young Artists of the FB Academy! In this one week, after school session, Young Artists will not only work one-on-one with New York City based professionals, but they will star in the Forestburgh Playhouse’s Fall Series performing alongside their favorite teaching artists! The camp will conclude in two cabaret style performances where each Young Artist will perform in group numbers as well as a duet with an FB Academy teaching artist. Space is very limited for this program so be sure to register early!
