Crock Pot Apple Butter

Use up your apples with this delicious recipe

how to make apple butter

This is a great recipe to use up those extra dozen Empires from your last apple picking trip.

  • 12 apples
  • 1-tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1-2 tablespoons sugar
  • ½ cup apple cider
  • Pinch of cloves or nutmeg (optional)

Peel, core, then thinly slice about a dozen apples. Place them in a crockpot with a tablespoon of cinnamon, 1-2 tablespoons of sugar, and about ½ cup cider. If you want to add a pinch of cloves or nutmeg, go for it. Place the lid on the crockpot and cook on high for around 6-8 hours. When apples are a mushy mess, puree in batches in a food processor or blender. If butter is watery, just return to the (uncovered) crockpot, or a saucepan, and cook until mixture reduces down and thickens. Place apple butter in an airtight container and refrigerate (or seal in sterilized jars). You can also freeze apple butter in plastic containers for up to 3 months.
