This time of year, we find ourselves sitting on the floor frequently, playing games, opening presents, hanging out with our kids. If you perform cobbler's pose while you're there, you'll increase your flexibility, open your hips and make it easier to stay seated on the floor for longer periods of time.
To avoid over-stretching your back in Cobbler's Pose, be sure to lean forward with a straight back. Let your heart lead the way, not your head. Keep your shoulders back and down, draw your shoulder blades together, and you will feel a deep stretch in the inner thighs and groins. Breathe deeply and naturally throughout and enjoy this gentle, hip-opening pose.
