Clinton celebrates all seasons

Seasonal fun comes in all sorts of ways in Clinton, a rural town in northern Dutchess County. From the fall’s sensational colors, pumpkin patches, corn mazes; to winter’s skiing, snowshoeing, ice fishing, snowmobiling; the spring’s maple syrup pancake breakfasts and thawed hiking trails; and the summer’s camping, water sports on the many lakes and ponds, fishing and golf, Clinton offers a wonderful range of family activities year-round.

Located 90 miles north of New York City, Clinton compromises 37 square miles and is a picturesque rural community with many working farms and scenic drives. Locals love the town’s quiet and safe communities, where families and friends share good times and strong bonds. The beautiful region has top-notch schools, with old-fashioned living and values.

Weekend homeowners also appreciate Clinton’s charms, including living in private, quiet country homes in near proximity to Rhinebeck, Millbrook, Poughkeepsie and Kingston and all they have to offer in good food, entertainment and shopping.

For instance, Jeannie Beans deli in Clinton Corners in the eastern part of Clinton, is as popular for its delicious food as it is for its celebrity sightings. The nearby Wild Hive Farm is another favorite for its honey-based baked goods and grits, which are sold at the farmers markets in New York City and have been highly recommended by The New York Times and Food & Wine Magazine.

Local churches also are a draw for town residents and enhance the local sense of community among residents. The Clinton Arena and ice-skating rink are housed in a building on the National Register of Historic Places and offer birthday parties, figure skating and ice hockey games with one of the oldest ice-skating clubs in the country. In summer, the site hosts flea markets, craft fairs, reunions, CNY Postcard Show, with picnics and private rentals available.

New York communities across the state have adopted the climate smart pledge including Clinton, as it seeks to create more energy efficiency. Along those lines, town’s many day events are promptly cleaned up after so that the beauty of the town remains intact.

The Clinton Community Library offers programs for all ages, from toddler story time to yoga and tai chi and a very popular lunch and learn series. There also are programs for seniors, like its Optimistic Aging classes.
