It's been said that sitting is the new smoking. Not only does long-term sitting lead to muscular atrophy and poor posture, it also stresses the lower vertebral discs of the spine. Fortunately, we can counter many of the detrimental effects of sitting with Chair Pose. Your posture benefits from strengthening the backs of the shoulders and whole back body while your lower body also gains strength and shape.

Hold Chair Pose several times a day, working up to a minute. If you have shoulder issues, hold your arms out to the sides or alongside your body instead of overhead. Keep your core engaged, and breathe throughout.
