Celebrate Disability Pride Month with expanded accessibility!

July is Disability Pride Month, and DEC is committed to expanding access to our shared outdoor spaces for people of all ages and abilities. Recently, over $5 million in state accessibility projects were completed to expand recreational opportunities for all New Yorkers to enjoy.

Check out the new, easy-to-use map of Accessible Recreation Destinations for wheelchair accessible features at education centers, campgrounds, day use areas, waterway access sites, trails, and more!

DEC also offers facilities that have been designed to provide shore-based fishing access to anglers and boaters with disabilities. You can find information about Places to Fish and Boat Launch Sites on the DEC website.

All projects advance DEC’s Adventure NY initiative, with the goal of connecting New York families and visitors with the great outdoors and improving their experience. Also available are a variety of programs aimed to accommodate people with disabilities, including discounts for outdoor recreation, free and reduced fee sporting licenses, and Motorized Access Permits for People with Disabilities (MAPPWD).
