Can the arts aid in healing for chronically-ill children and adults?

We run two programs in our Arts for Healing Outreach – one focuses on chronically ill children and their families, the other on people with early stage Alzheimer’s and their caregivers.  For children, the arts help alleviate fear and anxiety when they go for treatment.  They get involved in the process and lose themselves in the joy of creating.  For people with Alzheimer’s Disease, we have found that the arts – primarily music, movement, and the visual arts – stimulate their senses and provide respite for their caregivers.
