The Adventures in Finding Awesome Smoked Food at Big W's Bar-B-Q

Smoked food recommendation in Dutchess County, NY

the look of staring at glorious smoked food

There have been a couple smoked places popping up in the Hudson Valley. However, our go to place is Big W's Roadside Bar-b-q in Wingdale, NY.

Before we talk food, I have to mention the incredibly hospitable owner and the staff. They are so wonderful making it a very family friendly restaurant. They also have great music usually playing that yes, Abby girl did get up and dance to like the free spirit she is. I believe Grateful Dead was playing. There is also lots of stuff to look at as you chow down on all the tastiness. In warm weather you can dine on their picnic benches outdoors or even take the food to go.

Now the food. We take the pilgrimage from Poughkeepsie to Wingdale on special occasions. Tomorrow, is my husband's big Christmas present and so we will be there. The portions are generous and there several options of meat. He usually eats a lot. He eats like a total pig. No pun intended.

I personally don't like the smell or taste of smoked food. So why do I go? The sides. Oh the glorious sides. My two favorites are the mac and cheese and dirty potatoes. Talk about a carb overload. Their mac n cheese is bursting with flavor. There dirty mashed potatoes are just as good too. My husband loves the fruit compote and I enjoy the something green as well.

Lastly, dessert. After stuffing your face (I personally advise against pants that button as they might burst and put out an eye) get the brownie. Oh, it's so delicious.

After you're all done ... drag yourself into your car and drive home. I advice hiking beforehand as after there is no way it's gonna happen unless you aren't human. Some places I like to go work up an appetite are Dover Stone Church or the Appalachian trail. Eat up and tell the owners Abby girl sent you! Perhaps we will see you there.

Adventures of Abby Girl is all the awesome things my daughter and I experience in the Hudson Valley and beyond completely as it is. You can read more blogs about Adventures of Abby Girl here.
