Since winning the Cover Kid Event, Fishkill mother Marion McKinley and her daughter Janessia have been hard at work with the New York Talent Club.
“We usually tape during the summer so my nine-year-old Janessia doesn’t have to miss school,” says Marion. “But if a big role comes her way during the school year, she would have to get make-up work to stay up on her schooling.”
Marion McKinley offers these three tips for future Cover Kid parents
1. Let kids live their dreams. It’s important to nurture your child’s creative spirit. Try not to squash their dreams, even if they seem farfetched.
2. Be prepared for the exposure. Exercise caution, but also realize attention is what the limelight is all about.
3. Let your kids have fun with it. If you push your child too hard, you may turn them off from something they could flourish at.
Besides extra work, Janessia gained a healthy amount of self confidence through acting, which has made her more active with her schooling and extra-curricular activities. Marion is also enjoying the limelight, working for a German movie production!
