There are lots of books to choose from and the prices are inexpensive. The staff is extremely knowledgeable about available books. Open Wednesdays - Fridays: 10 am – 5pm; Saturdays: 12pm–5pm; Sundays: 10am–5pm.

 

Binnacle Books

Binnacle specializes in used and new literature, poetry, literary nonfiction, political history, art, drama, philosophy, graphic novels, and children’s books. If they don’t have what you’re looking for, they will be happy to order it for you. Plus, this shop is always looking to acquire used books in excellent condition. Open every day from 12-6pm.

Friends’ Book Store

The store offers over 20,000 high-quality used books, DVDs and audiobooks. The crew of amazing volunteers continuously restock the shelves from a large inventory of donated books. Most books are $2.00 or less! Proceeds earned support the Poughkeepsie Public Library District.

Well Worn Books

This small, independent bookstore features new and used books, quality writing products, thoughtful gifts, and a cozy atmosphere for friends and neighbors to enjoy. You can also grab a cup of coffee and just relax. Open Tuesday-Thursday 11am-6pm; Friday 11am-7pm, and Saturday 10am-6pm.

 

Montgomery Book Exchange

This store carries all kinds of great stuff from old yearbooks, paper doll books, records, unique vintage finds, and of course, all kinds of books just waiting for you to read. Thursday-Friday 12pm-5pm; Saturdays-Sundays 12-4pm.

 

Golden Hour Books

Golden Hour is an indie bookstore providing a mix of used and new books, specializing in literary fiction and nonfiction, women writers, cookbooks and food writing, and children’s books. Join the Golden Hour Book Club on the last week of each month at a local business. They also have a monthly kids’ story time. Thu-Fri, 11:30am-5pm; Sat-Sun, 10am-5pm.

 

The Book & Nook

24 Ronald Reagan Blvd, Warwick. 

The Book & Nook is a Latinx and Woman-owned indie bookstore offering a wide range of books including new, used, antique, rare, signed, and first-edition books. In addition, they have a variety of new and vintage comics, as well as graphic novels. Besides books, you can find stationery, toys, tote bags, stickers and more! They also offer fun events like story times, a book club, book signings, and workshops. They also have a consignment program for local authors and artists. Open Tuesday, Wednesday & Saturday 10am-6pm; Thursday & Friday 10am-7pm.

 

Middletown Thrall Library Book Store

11-19 Depot Street, Middletown

The store, run completely by volunteers, offers a vast selection of donated paperback and hard cover classics, mysteries, science fiction, romance, history, philosophy, law, psychology, cooking, children’s literature, biographies, and much more, including many titles no longer in print. It also offers a continuous variety of magazines, CDs, DVDs / Blu-rays, VHS tapes, music cassettes, audiobooks, and vinyl records. Hours are Tuesdays & Saturdays (12–4 pm) sales only (no donations), Wednesdays (12–4 pm) donations only (no sales).

 

Blue Fox Books

The shop features mostly used books and select new titles. Popular sections include literary fiction, children’s, local history, nature and science, mystery, and mythology. Blue Fox also sells journals, literary candles, teas, stationery, tarot cards, and many more unique giftable items! Be sure to check the website for special events. Wednesday-Friday 11am-5pm, Saturday 11am-6pm, and Sunday 11am-3pm.

These two bookstores are the main fundraisers for the Literacy Volunteers of Sullivan County. The donated books are sold for $1.50 for hardcover and 75 cents for paperbacks. Monday, Tuesday and Friday 10-5, Wednesday-Thursday 10-6; Saturday: 10-4.

Blue Heron Bookstore

The Bruised Apple is as far from the big corporate bookstores as you can get. From the hand painted sign above the front door to the numerous hidden (and not so hidden) clippings and letters that decorate the store, everything is personalized by the family and friends of the Bruised Apple. They have been buying selling and trading all sorts of used, out of print and sometimes truly rare books, records and now also CDs and movies. Call for hours.

 

Antipodean Books Maps & Prints

This shop has a been book, map, print, ephemera & photograph dealer for 46 years, members of the Antiquarian Booksellers Association of America, the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers & many prominent trade organizations. They offer old & rare books, maps, prints, ephemera & photographs on many subjects. Monday-Friday 10am-5pm; closed Saturday/Sunday or by appointment.

 

Mahopac Library Book Barn

This shop has thousands of gently used books for $1.00 or less. They carry classics, novels, biographies, history, cooking, home schooling, picture books, tween books, and more. Item donations are being accepted by appointment only. All of the money raised in The Book Barn comes back to the library to help support events, programs and the library’s collection. Tuesdays 11am-2pm; Wednesdays 10am-12pm; Thursdays 2pm–7pm Saturdays 10:30am-2pm.
