Kids ages 5 to 19 get tips on public speaking

So you're scared to present? Youth ages 5-19, let us help! There’s no better time than the New Year to set goals for expanding your skills. Join 4-H staff and alumnae at any or all of our three sessions to hone-in on your presentation skills! We will provide cutting-edge tips and instruction before sending you into breakout rooms to apply what you learned to your presentation. Complete the Beginners Planning Form prior to the sessions to lay your foundation and get ready to exchange ideas with new friends and skilled presenters. Sessions will take place on January 5, 6, and 7 from 6 to 7 p.m. on Zoom.

Sessions topics are as follows:

  • January 5: Choosing your Topic and Main Ideas
  • January 6: Visual Aids and Body Language
  • January 7: Introductions, Transitions and Conclusions

These practice sessions are intended to help youth presenters prepare for the Annual Public Presentations event which takes place on January 9. Due to COVID-19, we will be conducting this event virtually over Zoom and youth will be able to present from the comfort of their own home. At this event, youth will receive feedback about their presentation from experienced and knowledgeable adults who will help them to become an better presenters. For those who want some healthy competition, this event may qualify outstanding presenters for the North East States Regional Presentation Event!

Registration for the Public Presentations event on January 9 closes on January 5, 2021. Each time-slot is 30 minutes between 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. Youth must complete the 4-H enrollment paperwork to participate!
