Ways to Adventure At Home

From writing a note to traveling to space in a box!

Ways to Adventure At Home

In these times, it is time to get creative and there are a lot of places we cannot adventure to right now. However, there are so many virtual options it’s crazy.

Think Local When Thinking Virtual!

Mindful Yoga with Liz offers virtual class options. Abby Girl had tried her class before COVID and had an absolutely amazing time. Yoga has so many benefits and is great during such stressful times. Even kids sometimes need to find their inner OHM. So go checkout what she has to offer!

The Broadway Portal offers is another option!

“In addition to providing support for virtual learners in our physical space, we're looking to provide a virtual option of all of our offerings, including virtual STEM classes.”

MrHubertTPT is on Facebook and has great resources through Teachers Pay Teachers at awesome rates. Over Halloween, we completed a whole packet based around a themed book. We are really looking forward to trying some more of her resources!

Mad Science has some cool science kits to complete at home. We tried one of the kits over the summer and it actually sparked Abby to create some of her own experiments. A lot of local businesses are now creating cool kits from science to cookie decorating. Mad Science, however, is one of our top picks along with Bespoke Commodities because they have some really cool craft kits!

MAD SCIENCE VIDEO!

So you don’t want to leave your house for storytime or one isn’t available right now in your area? Well, then just head over to the Pleasant Valley Library on Youtube! Ms. P does a great storytime for the children.

Get Competitive!

There are a lot of great online contests to become involved in right now. We just completed the virtual-trail-a-thon for the NY NJ Trail Conference. We went out and hiked and then people could follow your journey and contribute to your trail-a-thon online. Worried about it being legit? Just do some research before you sign up!

Don’t forget Video Chat-

Keep in touch with loved ones via Facebook chat or some of the other options available now. Zoom has become beyond popular. Our original Pastor who is now in Africa, started an online church service from there on Sundays. Feeling connected during these times is very important

Not So Local-

A lot of destinations such as zoos and museums have a lot of content on their websites so that you don’t even have to go to the destination. We also love the popup classes with Varsity Tutors. We are joining a Zoom class with a Big Cat Veterinarian next week!

Home Sweet Home-

Get creative in your own home! We experimented with melting crayons over a bottle to make a cool vase. Soon we are building a den for the animals (stuffed, not real, to hibernate in until spring). We turned our living room into an art gallery and have gone on many trips with just a box.

Melted Crayon Video!

And here are some great Nature-Based Activities!

Get Old Fashioned-

Bring back snail mail! We just worked on a project for Veterans day where Abby created a card for her uncle who served in the Army. Find someone to thank. I remember last year we wrote a whole post on our sister site about gratitude. So draw a picture, write a note, create something and send it to someone special. You could even look into penpals. A lot of senior care facilities welcome mail to their residents.

Handwritten Cards Holiday Post

Final Thoughts-

Adventuring might not look the same right now. However, it is still possible to have adventures right from the comfort of your own home. Feel free to leave your suggestions in the comments. You can also find us on Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest and Twitter if you would like to follow us for more inspiration. You can also subscribe to our Youtube Channel or read our sister blog! We are very busy at Adventures of Abby Girl HQ!

Here are some cool other suggestions-

Playing in the leaves. But, do a tick check!

Play dress-up

Create words with letters. They are actually stickers!

Don't peel off backs.

Baking is a great way to connect with the family and very educational.
