Fairytale Setting at Dover Stone Church

Fairytale Setting at Dover Stone Church

a little team selfie at Dover Stone Church
I love this time of year with Abby girl. We get to explore all kinds of awesome outdoor locations before the heat of the summer sets in and this week, one of our stops was the fairy tale setting at Dover Stone Church.

When you arrive, do not pull up the road that says Dover Stone Church. There is no parking and the abundance of signs including a tow sign make that very clear. Instead, drive down the road and park at the elementary school. Then road walk up to the trail head.

You will be greeted with a lot of stairs. I think I counted forty-one to be exact. The first set has only six and the rest all have seven. Only reason I know, is I carried my 33 pound daughter back up.

Dover Stone Church
There is a line of trees and a straight away that Abby used as her own imaginary runway as she tried to takeoff as an an Abby Airplane. At the end, you are greeted by a second, smaller set of stairs. Abby raced me up them and made me take the slope up and not the stairs. She wanted to win.

The trail is flat and follows the stream and then veers off to the left and over a bridge. My child stopped for a pose here which is ironic because I stopped in same spot for a photo opp very pregnant with her several years before. The bridge has undergone upgrades.

There are trails that go up through the woods (we didn't go that way). I have gone up a bit in the past and remembered a lot of uphill. We followed the water to the cave. This time of year the rocks are slippery and we did trudge through a little water. Abby girl is part jungle creature so she was very nimble on the rocks and made it to the cave. It was very loud. But, it is very magical and if you are brave and the water isn't flowing too hard, you can go in. I have gone in later in the season.

When you are done taking in the magical scenery, trace your steps back. We veered off and walked by the woods in the grass. We tossed sticks and dandelions in the water and watched them float.

Quick, easy 1.3 mile hike with a little road walking. The worst part is the stairs. When you are all done, go down to Big W's south on 22 and tell them Adventures of Abby Girl sent you. Their food is amazing. I only eat the non-meat stuff. Go for the mac and cheese or mashed potatoes. Top it off with a brownie at end and ruin all the exercise you just did. You earned it.

Adventures of Abby Girl is all the awesome things my daughter and I experience in the Hudson Valley and beyond completely as it is. You can read more blogs about Adventures of Abby Girl here. Also feel free to follow on Instagram and Facebook or watch videos of all things Abby Girl and Momlife on Youtube. When I'm not writing my blog or shooting crazy videos, I own a local photography business in the Hudson Valley-Erica Higgs Photography.
