Why does my middle schooler hate art?

It’s a sensitive age (10-13), and a time when kids are very interested in being the same as their peers. As a child approaches the tween stage, they begin to compare themselves to others around them. It’s when we start becoming aware of our own social placement within groups. The art room is not exempt from these comparisons. To help students, we need to encourage them to pursue what they love and to understand that they are in a growing stage and can improve in any skill they want to. Those who have had, and continue to get, positive reinforcement about their creativity don’t shy away from their art.
