School with heart

  5 of 5

My husband and I love this school for its focus on the development of the whole child: Head, hands and heart. Respect for nature, the individual, and one another is engrained in the curriculum, the community and the caring individuals who teach and run the school. Stories, music, and movement are woven into the traditional subjects. Our daughter a fourth grader and her schoolmates astound us with the empathy and intelligence they are developing at Primrose Hill School. We love the rosy cheeks and big smiles to be seen there too! Our daughter loves it because she feels cared for, listened to, inspired and free to be herself. She also loves taking care of the animals and learning about plants and farming.

A School for Our Time

  5 of 5

Primrose Hill School has heart. Our son attends the Shooting Stars nursery program and it's a perfect fit for us. With an emphasis on the forest Kindergarten model, this growing Waldorf school is innovative, inclusive, and staffed with a loving community of wise educators. Our son is met where he is socially and emotionally each day even when that day is a huge uphill struggle. The Waldorf early childhood classroom at Primrose embraces free play in a home-like environment. The children spend their time doing real work and learning the most important lessons they will ever learn, compassion, empathy, and kindness. This school is a gem and we are so grateful to be a part of it.

As a family, we feel very fortunate to have found Primrose Hill School. The faculty and community of Primrose Hill is inspiring. We are blessed to have such committed teachers holding space for our little ones to thrive. From our very first visit, we could feel the magic of the school, and it has only grown as we continue to get deeper into the community.

My daughter is thriving at PHS - surrounded by happy kids, profoundly committed and wise teachers, and a beautiful farm campus. She's in 3rd grade now and we look forward to many more years!

We love Primrose! My son really needs that smaller family feeling and feels like he belongs here! The farm is wonderful too!

Pre-K through 4th Grade Inspired by the Waldorf Philosophy of Education

  5 of 5

Primrose Hill School meets its students in developmentally appropriate ways through academics, art, music, and close connection to nature. Lessons that honor the child’s sense of wonder and imagination lay a strong foundation for rising to the challenges of higher education and adulthood with creativity and self-confidence. In addition to regular academics, grade school subjects include foreign language, painting, drawing, modeling, handwork, instrumental and vocal music, movement, and agricultural arts. All students spend time outdoors everyday and are involved in animal care on our farm. Primrose Hill School has plans to grow through 12th grade and continue to expand its work with biodynamic agriculture. It is located on 7.5 acres in the Village of Rhinebeck, NY.
