Resources for learning a new language:


1.    The Newburgh Free Library holds adult only classes for those looking to dive into French culture and literature. Le Cercle de Lecture is a French book club that meets on the first Sunday of each month. There is also a group that meets on the last Saturday of the month that focuses on French language and culture.

2.    Dutchess County Boces program offers a Speed Spanish online course for adults. The course teaches six easy recipes you can use to glue Spanish words together into sentences. You will be engaging in conversational Spanish in no time!

3.    Meet new people, learn the history of the Irish Culture, have fun and learn to speak, read and sing songs in Irish Gaelic at the Irish Cultural Center in Kingston. The 10 week session is free for students and $80 for adults. 845-616-7909.

4.    Learn about Chinese culture and how to speak the language at The Orange County Chinese School in Central Valley. Through small, interactive classes, you’ll focus on attaining practical language skills that can be used in the real world. Classes for children and adults. Occany.org

5.    Finger Talk, Inc. is a unique and innovative training program that introduces you to sign language with the help of the hearing impaired community. One of the goals of the class is to teach you about the deaf culture, hold special interest activities and banish the fear of interacting with the deaf community. 845-496-8063.

6.    The Mamakating Library offers the very popular online program Rosetta Stone for FREE to those with a library card. Many libraries throughout the Hudson Valley offer programs to help you learn a new language for free.
