Some days we are just so busy getting things done around the house, or running errands that we may or may not have time to get creative. Sometimes splashing in the pool or meeting up with friends is the priority of our day. Since we are a creative family we do try to find time to create some kind of art each day.
Here are five easy ways to create more art each day:
Take a photo a day - modern technology makes it easy to carry around a camera every day. Not only does my smart phone allow me to take photos, it allows me to edit right on the spot. Where ever we go, or whatever we are doing we try to find something interesting to take a photo of. Then we edit it and make it into something we can print and hang up in our house. Super easy original art.
Make a Doodle Gallery - we often find ourselves doodling at the breakfast table. It's a great way to keep my kids sitting still in their chair. We started doodling on Post-it notes and have grouped them together in a small gallery on our refrigerator. It's also a great way for my kids to practice hand grip and develop hand strength.
Create Art Where You Are - whenever we take a walk, or hike outside we keep an eye open for unusual or interesting looking rocks, leaves and sticks. We gather them as we walk and when we get to an open space we create a collage. The kids love to create whatever they can imagine and I love hearing the stories they come up with about their art. We leave the collage behind for someone else to stumble upon.
Paint Some Rocks - locally you can find a group called Kindness Rocks Project- Catskill. This group encourages leaving painted rocks out in the community for others to find. The rocks usually have some words of encouragement or kindness. Paint up some rocks on a rainy day and when the sun is out drop them off in public places to make someone smile. Learn how to create your own group here.
Be on The Lookout- while driving through cities keep an eye out for large murals, or sculptures. We live in an area so filled with art it's hard not to find something creative and unique where ever you go. Just walking through small villages you can find street sculptures. The Village of Catskill has painted cats on display in the street. My kids love to pick up a walking map of the village and stop at each cat.
It's easy to incorporate small amounts of art into your daily routine. Whether it's creating simple doodles, or walking through villages actively seeking art, you and your family will feel like you had some fun art experiences.
How do you get a little art into each day?
