8 Ideas this Mother's Day

Unique ways to spend Mother's Day as a family

Mom and daughter, mothers day roundup

Most moms dream about spending Mother's Day free of cooking, cleaning and catering to the family's every need... for just one day. You don't have to spend a lot of money to make mom's day extra special- we betcha quality time will certainly do the trick. We have already done all the hard work for you!

1. Brunch
Rule #1 of Mother's Day: mom stays outta the kitchen... well at least in my house. I'm not a fan of cooking so on Mother's Day I proclaim I'm off duty as short order cook around here. If same goes in your house suggest a delicious Sunday Brunch. A few favorites include The Bear Mountain Inn, a brunch cruise aboard the Pride of the Hudson, or Twisted Soul Food Concepts at the Vassar College Alumnae House.

Other Mother's Day Brunch locations include:

2. Have Some Tea
Enjoy a family-themed tour of the gardens and share a beautiful tea with mom. 1pm. Clermont State Historic Site, Germantown.

3. Mom into Sci-Fi, comic books and video games? Take her to Comic Con 2017
Fun for all ages, Hudson Valley Comic Con features puppet and drawing workshops, coloring, speakers, special guests, Q&A and much more! 10am-7pm. Gold's Gym, Poughkeepsie.

4. Visit a farm and plant some flowers
Take a farm tour, take a spin on a bicycle-powered polenta grinder, explore the gardens, make a smoothie and more fun for the whole family. Stock up for mom's garden with over 100 varieties of vegetable, flowers and herb plants. Poughkeepsie Farm Project, Poughkeepsie.

5. Car Cruise at Angry Orchard
Admire the view overlooking the orchard, tour the distillery and socialize by the outdoor fire pit with your family while enjoying classic and late model muscle cars. Grab lunch at a food truck! Angry Orchard, Walden

6. Let mom shop
Local vendors, live music and a fabulous stroll through the tulip gardens is only a taste of what mom will enjoy at the Annual Tulip Festival and Mother's Day Celebration. Honor's Haven Resort & Spa. Ellenville.

7. Take a trip down the rabbit hole with Alice
Meet Alice, Hatter, March Hare and the Queen of Hearts for a mommy and me mad hatter tea complete with finger sandwiches, tea and treats. Crafts, activities and music for kids and their moms. The Loft at Foundry42, Port Jervis

8.  Take her to the fair!
