Sullivan County is known for its breathtaking scenic views and the town of Fallsburg is no exception. Over the years, Fallsburg has attracted many visitors with its beautiful golf courses and parks. This town is definitely ideal for families that want to experience all the Catskills has to offer. So if you’re looking for a family-friendly day trip in the Hudson Valley, head over to Fallsburg! Check out some of these great places while you’re there.
1. Watch an exciting show at the Rivoli Theatre
2. Chow down on authentic Mexican food at Hacienda La Margarita
This historic community theater is constantly putting on quality productions all for a great price. Not to mention, what could be better than supporting local talent! There are a variety of different shows going on this summer, but we’re most excited for Beauty and the Beast which comes to the stage in August!
This popular restaurant gives Hudson Valley families a taste of genuine Mexican food. The restaurant is decorated with vibrant colors that your kids will love. The food is served on beautiful painted plates which will make you feel like you’ve teleported to sunny Mexico. Our personal favorite is the Hacienda Especial, which is a thin sliced grilled steak with grilled cactus (trust us, it’s seriously delicious), all served with rice and beans. If you have picky eaters, don’t worry. Hacienda La Margarita has a kid’s menu stocked with old standbys like chicken tenders, and cheese quesadillas.
3. Bike along the O&W Rail Trail
When your family takes a bike ride along this level trail you’ll pass by amazing views of the Catskills and beautiful flowerbeds. Make sure to stop by at the Visitor’s Center to see artifacts and to learn more about the historical trains that once passed over the O&W Rail Trail.
4. Play golf at Terry Brae Golf Course
Are your kids interested in giving golf a try? Maybe your kids have aspirations of being the next Michelle Wie? Either way, Terry Brae Golf Course is the perfect place to play. This public municipal golf course offers a diverse course layout at a great price. Not to mention, the views of the Catskills from each hole are spectacular! Terry Brae offers clinics for kids and has a great practice area, and you’ll have fun prying your kids away from the snack bar!
5. Go fishing at Morningside Park
Morningside Park boasts a 125 acre lake that’s the ideal place to cast your reel for the day. The lake contains many different kinds of fish including Large Mouth Bass, Catfish, and Bluegill. In order to go fishing in this lake, a fishing license is required.
