Want to know what the hot home trends will be for 2010? Sharon Hibbard, of Decorating Den Interiors tells us what to look for:
With 2009 soon behind us it’s time to look forward to 2010 and see what design trends will be influencing the home furnishing industry. The continued stress on the economy has made people return their focus to family and home life. There is an increasing need to create a living environment that gives peace, respite, and sanctuary to ourselves and those we love.
Nostalgia will be an ever present theme as we all look back to the simpler and easier days of yesteryear. It will be reflected in décor pieces and colors. Distressed leather ottomans, vintage coffee tables, rich earthy colors, aged greens and smoky blues are examples of elements of interest in the coming year. Décor and furnishing will be accented with family heirlooms and classic pieces that remind us of our childhood. Our homes will increasingly reflect our individual personalities.
Our ever-shrinking world will be reflected in globally inspired designs, influenced by Aboriginal, Native American and African tribal patterns. Bold geometrics and colors, tribal prints for drapery and slipcovers as well as textiles with painted African landscapes and wildlife are beginning to emerge as a popular design motif.
The “green” movement will also continue to influence design and décor. Recently, there has been a growing trend to use recycled and repurposed furniture, this will only become more popular throughout the year. Organic products containing natural dyes such as indigo and tribal reds will make a come-back, and eco-friendly products that use LED and fluorescent bulbs will become the preference of those concerned with “green” design.
Overall, we will see many of the trends of this year flow into next, but with a less complex, more intimate, simple style.
